MELVILLE, N.Y., May XX, 2017 – Canon Solutions America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., today announced that Camelot Print & Copy Centers, (Camelot), a longstanding print provider located in the Capital Region of New York, has added an Océ VarioPrint i300 inkjet press to its dynamic print production fleet, further enhancing the company’s unique range of applications and offerings for customers.
Originally opening its doors in 1997 and headquartered in Latham, N.Y., Camelot Print & Copy Centers began as a small copy shop specializing in litigation copy services. Today, after years of consistent and steady growth, Camelot has grown to become one of the top copy centers and print providers in the Capital District of New York. Despite their leading status in this region, Camelot prides itself on something more important than selling and marketing copying and printing. They are well known for providing a high level of service and quality that is second to none. With a talented and dedicated production staff, design team, and service personnel, Camelot has continued its ascension over the last five years, with sales numbers rising each year – a testament to its commitment to providing top-line service and quality.
Helping sustain Camelot’s evolution has also been its ability to accept and embrace the ever-changing production print industry, and continue to develop its aforementioned robust print fleet. With more than 10 Canon and Océ products now on-site, Camelot has seemingly grown in unison with Canon Solutions America as both companies’ value adaptation and finding the right, customizable print solution for their valued customer base. The importance of this valued partnership is best illustrated by Camelot’s installation of the industry-leading Océ VarioPrint i300 inkjet press, which took place in December of 2016. Canon Solutions America’s Production Print Solutions Division helped develop a solution that would take Camelot’s efficiencies to new levels, while bringing prices down and adding a range of applications that has since allowed Camelot to pursue new business opportunities.
“Since the new VarioPrint i300 press has been up and running, it has proven to complement what we do [legal copying and services, graphic design, B2B services, oversize color and displays, among others] extremely well,” said John DerBoghossian, CEO and co-owner of Camelot Print & Copy. “There are some bigger and better opportunities for us in the horizon, and the Océ VarioPrint i300 inkjet press is going to help us hit those goals and continue to push forward.”
After attending the last years Graph Expo event and recognizing the increased prevalence of inkjet technologies, Camelot looked to Canon Solutions America to help identify ways to bring inkjet to the forefront of its operation. What followed was a series of conversations on how the Océ VarioPrint i300 inkjet press could offer more diverse applications and create higher margin opportunities, coupled with an ability to cost-effectively run monochrome and color print jobs on one engine. According to DerBoghossian, it was truly the versatility – a word befitting of Camelot itself – of the inkjet press device that was the pivotal component to making the acquisition.
With jobs ranging from brochures and flyers to booklets and book printing, Camelot’s application flexibility has never been this wide-ranging. “With over one million impressions on 1,300 different jobs since installation, the i300 is already proving its worth and reliability,” confirmed DerBoghossian. “We used to have jobs that would take four times as long on other devices, but now we are seeing speeds and efficiencies that enable us to reprint more for customers without any issues, while keeping the cost and look the same as before.”
As seen with many other print service providers, the Océ VarioPrint i300 has augmented Camelot’s suite of services with its output technologies that help enable a white-sheet-in, finished-application-out workflow required to meet the demands of today's shorter runs and fast turnaround print marketplace.
“There’s obviously many changes in the industry of late that have affected us, specifically seeing the need for much more small runs and moving away from long runs for cost effectiveness,” added BJ Rucinski, Vice President of Operations at Camelot. “Perhaps equally important is the need to customize jobs for the vast range of industries and clients we work with, and the i300’s application flexibility is the ideal complement to these specific needs.”
Growth applications continue to be a staple of what the Océ VarioPrint i300 offers. Applicable for service bureaus and transactional printers, direct mail houses, book and manual printers, and large in-plants, it is also well suited for commercial printers looking to increase flexibility, expand application mix, and take on more digital work, or leverage inkjet versatility. Bridging the gap between the application flexibility and efficiency of sheet-fed presses and the economy and productivity of web-fed systems, the Océ VarioPrint i300 inkjet press enables print providers like Camelot to handle new and more challenging applications – all while doing so profitably.
“This announcement is not an Océ VarioPrint i300 acknowledgment, but a celebration of a customer that has taken their business to new heights by being adaptable and eager to explore new avenues provided by inkjet technologies,” said Francis McMahon, senior vice president, Marketing, Canon Solutions America. “Camelot and Canon Solutions America is a winning combination, and I look forward to being a part of their growth for years to come.”
